Pastworld
is the largest theme park ever built. It is located in London, or rather, it
is London, restored and recreated in a faithful, vibrant, and pulsating replica
of itself in the Victorian era.
For
Eve, born and raised in Pastworld, carriages and gas lamps are modern inventions.
Eve doesn't even suspect she is living in a fiction until she is forced to flee
the only home she has ever known and confront the truth about her city and herself.
For
Caleb, a tourist on vacation in Pastworld, the theme park serves as the perfect
antidote to the suffocating conformism and oppressive norms of 2048. The raw
ferocity of the past is exhilarating, at least until he finds himself at a crime
scene, with a knife in hand and suddenly at the mercy of an archaic justice
system.
Meanwhile, a sinister and deadly figure roams the dense fog of London, claiming victim after victim: Fantom, a creature of the past and the future, in whose dark plans the fates of Caleb and Eve will converge.
